Including check-in comments for item-change alerts
Is there a way to include check-in comments in alerts that trigger when an item is changed?

Hi Brian, You can create a SharePoint Designer workflow with Send an email action. Add a lookup field (Check In Comment field in Current Item) and other fields you need to display in email body. Or you can try to modify the Alert Templates Schema. Alert templates are defined in Alerttemplates.xml and Alerttemplates.xml is located at local_drive\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shard\Web Server Extensions\12\Template\XML directory. Please do a copy before the customization. Here is a blog listed the steps to custom the alert template. http://www.topxml.com/rbnews/XML/re-70019_Customizing-Alert-Notifications-and-Alert-Templates-in-Windows-SharePoint-Services-3-0.aspx For more detail please refer to http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb802961(v=office.12).aspx I would like to suggest you remove the alert from the library and attach the SPD workflow on it. Since it is a more convenient way to archive your requirement. Best regards. Emir

1. Are you supposed to mark your own answer as the the solution? 2. Your suggestion will not work People will use the "Alert Me" - How do you include those subscribed to the list/library in your Sharepoint Designer Workflow? Assuming you want the workflow to work on specific address(es) The Check In Comment field is not included in available fields in SPD 3. Alertemplates :- Unfortunately the CheckIn Comment is not easily available, as far as I know it can be accessed via the SPFile object So in actual fact the only option here is probably Visual Studio. Unless: You know who you want to alert : you can use SPD workflow (well 2) One to copy Check in commet to another column, a second with a delay that then sends email (otherwise you'll get previous Check-in comment)

(Sorry for the mark/unmark. My mousepad on this small personal is far too active. It means neither that it isn't the answer nor that it is) What I wanted to say was that it seems that MS moderators have been told to wait a week and if a OP has not replied to a suggestion then they should mark the suggestion as the answer (on the assumption that no reply means the OP is happy) to "close" the thread. It's perhaps better if a different Moderator does the closing but here you will at least see that there is a week between the post being written and the poster marking it. signed: A non-MS Moderator SP 2010 "FAQ" (mainly useful links): http://wssv4faq.mindsharp.com/default.aspx WSS3/MOSS FAQ (FAQ and Links) http://wssv3faq.mindsharp.com/default.aspx Both also have links to extensive book lists and to (free) on-line chapters
