Include specific instructions in Subscriptions?
Is there a way to include user instructions in one Subscription without that message going into every other alert notification? Example: If a specific rule is triggered, I would like to send specific instructions in that e-mail. (I'm using scom2007 r2 and I have everything set up under Administration > Notifications > Subscriptions). The thing is, when I edited one Subscription, I found that same edit in all my other Subscriptions as well. Surely there must be a way to send specific text in the Subscriptions? /Henrik Jutterström

Hi If I understand you correctly, then you can only change the format on a channel by channel basis rather than on a subscription by subscription basis. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd440883.aspx So you would need to create additional channels and group your subscriptions by the relevant channel. Apologies if I have misunderstood. Cheers Graham View OpsMgr tips and tricks at http://systemcentersolutions.wordpress.com/

Hi Graham and thanks for the quick reply! You might be on to something. You see, I'm new to scom and I only saw channels as either I would like to send an e-mail, an sms or something like that. Not that I would have to configure one channel for every unique message I would like to send. The thing is, I would like to send instructions to a user if a rule is triggered. But not the same instruction to all Subscriptions. Some times it really amazes me how clumpsy scom is. But on the other way - it might me me, miss understanding the whole concept. Did you understand my problem better now?

Yep - SCOM can be a challenge at times - but the formatting of the email notification is sadly done at the channel level and not on the subscription itself. I suspect when you changed the format on the single subscription, it was from the Channel page (edit) of the subscription. And hence it changed it for all subscriptions (that use that channel). How insightfull! You are 100% correct. I didn't realize that it was the "real" channel that I was editing. Thank you for letting me know Graham! So I guess there's no other way then having multiple channels then? :( BR /Henrik

Thanks for the help some weeks ago! I see you have a blog on scom, do you (or anyone else) know if this it's easyer in 2012 beta to send specific messages in the alerts? I know it's a beta, but i'm figuring if it's woth using this one instead of 2007 r2 in hope that it might be easyer, better, and more user friendly? What do you think? The purpose is to monitor a bunch of servern via eventlog and see that services are up and running propperly. BR /Henrik
