In SharePoint 2007, How to create a site collection without typing site name in the url?
By mistake, I deleted the default site collection in my sharepoint 2007. Previously, I get access to this site collection by typing the url like "http://servername". So now I need to create a new site collection , but in the "URL" section , I have to type something in the url. I still want to get access to my new site collection by typing the url "http://servername", not the "http://servername/mysitename". Why this happen? I am learning SharePoint, and confused about the url problem. Thanks!

Hi, As you have already deleted your root site collection you can create a new one at the same location so that just typing the URL of the web application will be enough. I hope this will help you out. Thanks, Rahul Rashu

You need to have atleast one site collection (with a top level site) for you to even be able to navigate using http://servername
