In-place upgrade SSRS 2008 to 2008 R2
Hi, I tried to test a scenario of upgrading Reporting Services 2008 to 2008 R2. I have a named instance of SSRS 2008 and default instance of SQL Server 2008 database engine and analysis services - all Developer Edition. I only wanted to upgrade named instance of Reporting Services and shared features to 2008 R2 Enterprise and continue using SQL Server 2008 as DB engine to simulate scenario from the production environment. So I followed the steps desctibed on http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143724.aspx and http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143747.aspx I backed up the Report Server databases, encryption key and configuration files then I ran the upgrade from setup of SQL Server 2008 R2 Everithing went fine, even the Reporting Services Configuration Manager seemed to be configurd properly BUT then I found a problem when I was trying to restore encrytprion key and configure the database The problem with the DB: When I tried to connect to existing RS database, RS Conf. Manager poped up the following: The feature:"Using other editions of SQL Server for report data sources and/or report server database" is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services. When I tried to restore encrytpion key, operation failed with: Microsoft.ReportingServices.WmiProvider.WMIProviderException: The feature: "The Database Engine instance you selected is not valid for this edition of Reporting Services. The Database Engine does not meet edition requirements for report data sources or the report server database. " is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services. (rsOperationNotSupported) at Microsoft.ReportingServices.WmiProvider.RSWmiAdmin.ThrowOnError(ManagementBaseObject mo) at Microsoft.ReportingServices.WmiProvider.RSWmiAdmin.RestoreEncryptionKey(Byte[] encryptedBytes, String password) at ReportServicesConfigUI.WMIProvider.RSReportServerAdmin.RestoreEncryptionKey(Byte[] encryptedBytes, String password) But according to technet articles a assumed that Reporting Services can use SQL Server 2005 and newer db engines. What could cause the problem? Thanks.
