In-Place Archiving and Search

It's unclear what the search capabilities and limitations are for Exchange 2013 In-Place Archiving.  Specifically:

1. When you use Outlook 2010 Instant Search, does it automatically search BOTH the non-archived (main) and archived folder, such as the Inbox?

2. If Outlook is in online (NOT cached) mode, Exchange 2013 limits Instant Search to 250 results even if "Improve search speed by limiting the number of results shown" is unchecked (off).  How does this impact In-Place Archiving?

The notion of in-place archive means that items that are purged from the mailbox are retained in the database for compliance and discovery purposes.  These items are not searchable by Outlook; as far as the user is concerned, they're gone.  I don't believe Outlook will search items subject to deleted item recovery either.

Hi,

For Exchange Search, there's no difference between the primary and archive mailbox. Content in both mailboxes is indexed. Because the archive mailbox isn't cached on a user's computer (even when using Outlook in Cached Exchange Mode), search results for the archive are always provided by Exchange Search. When searching the entire mailbox in Outlook 2010 and later and Outlook Web App, search results include the users' primary and archive mailbox.
