Importing Spreadsheet into Announcement List
We are using SharePoint 2007, and would like to migrate all of the information from an existing Announcement list to a new Announcement list. The reason we would like to migrate this information into a new list is because when we initially created the existing Annoucement list, we did not sync it to an email address. I know that you can't go back and sync an email address to an Announcement list once its been created. However, we do not want to have to recreate all of the list items in the new list once it is created. Therefore, we are looking for a successfully way to import the list information. I have tried several methods, but have not had success. One method is exporting the existing list items as a spreadsheet, and then importing that same spreadsheet into the list by following these instructions: View All Site Content > Create > Import Spreadsheet . This results in an error message though on my end. Anyone have any other methods of successfully importing this data?

I would attempt it programmatically through code... I trust that answers your question... Thanks C http://www.cjvandyk.com/blog

Hi Cornelius, Can you clarify your answer? Would it be simply viewing the source file of the currentl ist, and copying + pasting into the source file of the new list?

Hi, Did you mean that SharePoint allow users sending email messages directly to the list when saying “sync it to an email address”? If yes, you can set it through list > settings >list settings > communications > In-coming email settings. If no, I think you can code to realize announce list items copy. Here are some relevant samples about coding sharepoint list: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd490727(office.12).aspx#Chap3ProgSharePointListsLibs_ProgrammingSharePointLists http://blog.the-dargans.co.uk/2007/04/programmatically-adding-items-to.html http://geekswithblogs.net/AnneBougie/archive/2009/03/15/part-2-copy-a-sharepoint-list-programmatically.aspx Hope it is helpful! Hi Seven, Thank you for providing me with information. The issue actually is that we have already created a list but now that the list is created, we would like to go back and assign an email address to it. In this way, this list will receive emails sent to the assigned email address. I understand that this is not possible once a list has been created. Do you know of a workaround for this? Also, this list is contained within a subsite of our MOSS site. Thank you!
