Import Computer Information not going into correct Collection
Hi, I currently have an issue when I import a machine into SCCM. I go through the usual procedure of Computer Association --> Import Computer Information then go through the wizard. Everything appears fine, I select the Collection I wish to import into however when the wizard is finished and I have refreshed the collections, the machine is no where to be found. I am placing it into a collection so I can PXE boot with the correct Advertisement. I have tried the following: 1. Existing PC into pre-existing collection 2. Existing PC into new collection Neither of these work however when I try a new PC, it goes into the collection fine. This points to the pre-existing system somewhere in the SCCM database. I have tried searching the database by MAC address after scanning various sites for the best queries however unable to find it in the database. I am looking at a two options: 1. Has anyone had this problem before and how did they track down the rogue machine(s)? 2. If it can't be found, I am looking at removing all desktops / laptops from the All Systems Collection. This will also remove from the database (if it doesn't, please let me know). The SCCM clients will then communicate back with the server to inventory / re-populate the SCCM database again. It will then be clear of any rogue machines. Would appreciate any thoughts / ideas on what other people have done in this scenario. Regards

Just to confirm, this is 2007, not 2012? And the machine you are importing, the MAC address definitely doesn't already exist in the SCCM database? You should only Import Computer information when it is a new machine that doesn't already exist in the database. When you import it into the All Systems collection, does it appear in the All Systems collection at all? If not, have a look at this hotfix - http://blogs.technet.com/b/configurationmgr/archive/2010/04/05/new-hotfix-kb980270-the-computer-associations-are-not-created-by-the-import-wizard-in-sccm-2007.aspxMy Microsoft Core Infrastructure & Systems Management blog - blog.danovich.com.au

Hi Are you able to find that rouge PC in "All Systems" collection? Did you try to use SMBIOS GUID instead of MAC under Import Computer Information wizard? Cheers Navdeep Sidhu

I have same issue.. i create a workaround which works well for me .. When import computer information i select All System collection instead of defining it to custom made collection. It then shows into All Systems collection and then i Add computer to my custom based collection. Xohaib

Search for the machines in all collection and move them to your desired collection by creating membership rule in that collection. 1.Right click on the collection where you want to have the machine and select properties. 2.Go to the Membership tab and click on the computer button. 3.Click on next. 4.In the resource class select "system resource" from the drop down menu. 5.In attribute name select MAC address. 6.Enter the MAC address(with colon) in Value. 7.Browse to "All System" in "search in this collection". 8.Check the box with the machine name and click on next. 9.After this machine will be imported the collection. Thanks Pranay.

Thanks Pranay. That's not importing a machine, that's just adding an existing machine resource to a collectionMy Microsoft Core Infrastructure & Systems Management blog - blog.danovich.com.au
