Implementing Linked Drilldown in Reporting Services 2005
Hi,
I have an end user requirement for which I am struggling to come up with a suitable solution. I have an Analysis Services cube which I need to build some reporting on. The report will contain three different datasets, but all three areas will have the same
hierarchy on the columns axis. The functionality I need is such that if the user drills down into this axis on one of the report areas, then identical drilldows is performed on the other two.
Questions are?
1.Is this something I could do in Reporting Services, and if so how?
2. Would Excel (2007) be more suitable, using three pivottables and doing some kind of linking via VBA / VSTO? Again, if so can anybody give any advice or point me in the right direction?

You're going to have a tough time combining data from three different results into column groups no matter what reporting tool you use. Your best option may be to rewrite a single query, combine the results in the cube or to use calculated
members to combine the results. If measures have the same dimensionality, you should be able to return the results from a single query. Are these three different datasets from the same cube? Otherwise, why is it important to have
different datasets?Paul Turley, MVP [Hitachi Consulting] SQLServerBIBlog.com *Please vote if helpful*

Hi Paul,
The three datasets come from different measure groups and have different dimensionality, but will all have the same dimension on the columns axis. Even if I could write a single query, I don't think I could present the results as I want them due to the limitations
of RS 2005 (no tablix region).
