Image Capture Wizard Failed With Error 0x800704CF

Hey,

When I use the image capture wizard after it restarts and begins capturing, it throws error 0x800704CF.  What the heck is that? Where does the image capture wizard log?

That's usually a network error...possibly the Account you have specified to access the folder which is configured to store the Captured image doesn't have the necessary Share/NTFS permissions.

yeah that is what I thought I now see in the log failed to connect, but the account does have access.

You think the boot image doesn't have the correct NIC drivers?

Hi, have a look at this blog for that: http://www.kozeniauskas.com/itblog/2008/05/12/sccm-image-capture-wizard-has-failed-with-error-code-0%C3%97800704cf/

It mentions: This basically means that the network drive that you are trying to capture image to cannot be accessed. Make sure that the user you’ve provided in capture wizard has enough rights to access the network drive and write to it.

Do do you capture the OS image on the SCCM server or a different server?

This because the computer account of the system hosting the SMS Provider (most of times the SCCM server itself) needs permissions to the files!

Just add the computer account and try again.

Hi,

0x800704CF error means ERROR_NETWORK_UNREACHABLE, which states “The network location cannot be reached.”

Please also make sure the correct NIC driver for the hardware as in the boot image.

Regards,

Sabrina

I have the exact same error. I have verified that the account that I am using for the capture has Full Control NTFS permissions on the directory and Full Control on the share. I have verified the NIC driver with Dell and I have verified that the driver has been injected into my boot image. The error still persists after reboot. I understand the "what" of this error however the "why" remains elusive. I have tried several different "how-tos" that I have found via Google and nothing changes my results. Unfortunately this system was set up before I arrived at this job and no one here knows anything about SCCM including me... but I am not going to give up on this thing until it produces an image from my template machine. I have also made sure that my machine is updated.
