If I want simulate primary site failure for RMS/principal SQL-- Will stopping the SCOM services on the RMS mimic site failure??
If I want simulate primary site failure for RMS/principal SQL-- Will stopping the SCOM services on the RMS mimic primary site failure ?? Do I need to stop SQL services on the prinicipal SQL server after breaking the SQL mirror(mirrored to secondary site?? Next after mimicing the primary site is unavailable then at a secondary site I reconfigure the MS to point to a mirrored SQL database--afterwards I promote this MS to RMS. In order to failback to the primary site I would have to demote this secondary site RMS back to MS. I am assuming that I need to repoint this SCOM RMS at the secondary site to the primary SQL server then demote it? I want the original RMS at the primary site to take over the role as RMS,...dsk

Scenario- Primary Site where RMS with principal SQL becomes unavailable. At a secondary site I promote a MS to RMS-Do I do this after reconfiguring the MS to a mirrored SQL at the secondary site?? Or do I need to reconfigure the MS to point to mirrored SQL before I promote the MS to RMS?? Is promotion of a MS to RMS independent of the SQL database? I am guessing that promotion of a MS to RMS requires it to be reconfigured for the mirrored SQL located at the secondary site? dsk

Your guess is correct :)Regards, Marc Klaver http://jama00.wordpress.com/

Stopping the services on the original RMS should mimic the failure of the OpsMgr function on that server, but you can as easily turn it off or unplug the network, no? More information about SQL mirroring you can find: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc917681.aspx#EFAA Consult your DBA, I have a strong feeling your SQL knowledge is limited. The reconnecting of the MS to the second database is like moving the DB: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc540384.aspx Before bringing back the original RMS you should demote it to MS: http://bradstechblog.com/scom/promoting-ms-to-rms-use-with-caution All of this is ofcourse something you only do when necessary, not for High Availability or something alike.
