I have a MOSS 2007 portal that is used for external customers
We provide them with AD accounts for this purpose, and they never log on through the domain, so they will always be asked to authenticate, but I would like to customize the windows authentication login. I would like to keep windows authentication so the Office integration is available, but all I am finding about customization to the login requires us to go to Forms Authentication, which I would really like to avoid. Suggestions welcome!

Hi heatherglen, From your post, you still want to use Windows and all of the integrated features it provides, you can consider an alternative such as publishing the SharePoint site with Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2006. ISA Server 2006 allows users to log on by using a forms authentication Web form, but treats them like Windows users after authentication. For more information about deploying Office SharePoint Server 2007 with ISA Server 2006, please refer to the following article: Deploying Office SharePoint Server 2007 with ISA Server 2006 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc268368.aspx Regards, Rock Wang Microsoft Online Community Support

I know you've said you'd like to avoid FBA - but there's a default forms provider in the box, and if you use ADAM or ADFS you can still have an AD administrative experience for your external user store while keeping the users distinct (secure) from your Active Directory core domain(s) - not that hard to do.
