IS SSRS Appropriate for such a Simple Project??
Hello,
I have a pretty easy project and I'm evaluating the best approach. We have customers who have made payments through our phone system. Those payments are stored in a dbase table and then once a day we create a physical file with the information. It then gets
secure FTP across internal network to accounting where they have some batch job that processes each line. So basically we have a recordset to be dumped to text and some formatting of a header, footer etc. Now it seems to me SSRS is far more powerful
than this little job so should I use SSRS or just do the query and apply an XML / XSLT to the data and spit it out?
TIA

Hi
Personally I would prefer integration services to do something like this...
You can generate XML by using the XML abilities of T-SQL to generate a single XML column.
You can then export that to a file, and use a script component in SSIS to add any arbitrary headers or footers that you need.
If you're job is simple extraction from the database to XML format, I would avoid reporting services.
Cheers
