IP Setting, Reverse and MX - Basic Question

Hi everyone,

I have some basic questions and if you can help me I appreciate:

- I have an Exchange Server 2K10 that sends email to internet directly through my firewall.

- The outgoing IP, from my firewall, is, for example 200.200.10.10.

- the smtp domain is, "test.com"

- the SPF is set for the 200.200.10.10 IP.

The question is:

- my MX must be configured to the outgoing IP (200.200.10.10)?

Is it mandatory that the MX IP be the same IP that the email leaves my company (through the firewall)?

If the email goes out through the Exchange Server -> firewall so the recipient will chek the IP from the sender checking the 200.200.10.10 reputation or check if that is the MX IP address?

So, MX must be 200.200.10.10 or not necessary?.

Thanks in advance.

Best Regards.

An MX record points to a hostname, not an IP address.  So the MX record would point to an A record that points to the IP address where you want incoming mail routed.

The SPF record applies to outbound mail, so it should contain a value that represents the outbound IP address.  Reverse DNS should also be in place for that address.
