ILM 2 Setup Problems
I'm installing, well, trying to install,a proof of concept ILM 2 system in a customer's test environment. Windows Server 2008 with IISSQL Server 2008SharePoint 3.0 SP2.NET framework 3.5 SP1At first, my installation was failing because it couldn't start the service. I increased the timeout for the service control manager which seemed to fix the problem with the service starting. After the service starts, the status bar moves a little, but eventually flashes something about rolling back actions andit says "Microsoft identity lifecycle manager setup wizard terminated prematurely" and setup ends.Within the timeframe of the setup process, the following is logged in the system log several timesLog Name: SystemSource: Microsoft-Windows-DistributedCOMDate: 6/5/2009 10:42:14 AMEvent ID: 10016Task Category: NoneLevel: ErrorKeywords: ClassicUser: NETWORK SERVICEComputer: server.fqdn.localDescription:The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {61738644-F196-11D0-9953-00C04FD919C1}to the user NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE SID (S-1-5-20) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC). The first few times I installed ILM 2 in my own test environment, it worked as expected. I followed the same procedure, with the exception that my test environments ran on a domain controller, while the customer's test domain controller is seperate. Thanks,Joseph Durnal

I would need to see an installation log to see why it is failing. Run the installation from an elevated command prompt:msiexec /i <path to msi> /l*v <your path here>\log.txtThis will produce a log file. Then send it to me at <my firstname>.<my lastname>@microsoft.com./AndreasThis posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. Peter,Thanks for that link. I've seen that in other sharepoint applicaiotns, but it never seemed to cause any harm. I resolved that error, but it didn't seem to fix my ILM 2 installation problem. I'm working on getting a fresh operating system install to start over. A little drastic, but I had lost a lot of my quality control with all the trial and error. This time, I'll better document my process.ThanksJoseph Durnal
