IIS Server name
Recently built another sp 2007 server, however I've just noticed that the IIS Name for the server is not the same as the server name. Server name is ServerXXXXXXX-01 and the IIS name is ServerXXXXXXX-0. I don't know how this happened but the
problem is that i cannot access pages as http://serverXXXXXXX-01 from anywhere but the server itself.
I tried renaming the IIS Server in IIS 7 but then I got a whole host of application errors in the log. I'm guessing i can probabaly have the network guys create a dns entry or something.
Any recommendations from anyone?

Hi Alex,
The NetBIOS name of a computer is limited to 15 bytes, which is 15 characters in this case. That is why
serverXXXXXXX-01 was shortened to serverXXXXXXX-0.
You could try to create a DNS record to point to
serverXXXXXXX-0 and see if it is helpful.
Or if it is a brand new setup, I suggest you to reinstall the OS and start from scratch because there may other potential issues which I am not aware of.
