IIS 6 uninstalled and reinstalled with SharePoint on it?
Dear all, One of our great Sys Admins has "accidentally" removed the application role to one of our WFE MOSS servers when he was trying to enable backups on it. With that, IIS 6 (w2k3 R2) got uninstalled. Do you guys know how to restore the IIS metabase (I don't have a backup of it; just a backup of inetpub where the sites were on the file system) Thanks in advance. Regards, GonçaloGonalo

if its WFE then you dont need to worry about this.just remove the server from the farm and the add it. you will get all your sites back. hope this will work. thanks -wsi am at entry level administrator

Hi ws, Thanks for the reply. I cannot do this since this is the only wfe on the farm. How am I going to rejoin it then? I rerun the SharePoint configuration wizard but didn't get them there. I got my CA back, but not all the sites. Regards, GonçaloGonalo

Hi, Build a new WebApp for each one you had previously, usually the Portal and MySite remove the new Content Db from each, and add the Content Db from the previous webApp to the new webApp... -Ivan Ivan Sanders My LinkedIn Profile, My Blog, @iasanders.

Hi Gonçalo, IIS automatically creates a backup of the metabase in: C:\windows\system32\inetsrv\history. Look for the latest file.(rename to metabase.xml) You should have a backup of the metabase there. Also, check if you got a system state backup of the server. Thanks Ivan, That would be my next step. But I got here the tip from Daniel and indeed we found a system state backup which had the IIS configuration. So after reinstallation of IIS restored the system state and restarted and back on business. Thanks to all. Regards, GonçaloGonalo
