IEAK and DirectX SoftwareInstall failes in Task Sequence
I'm getting the same error from the IEAK and DirectX 9 when installing via the Task Sequence. Platform is Windows XP SP2. I've tracked the error down to setupapi.log as follows Code Block#-198 Command line processed: "D:\_SMSTaskSequence\Packages\TOP00029\DXSETUP.exe" /silent#E359 An unsigned or incorrectly signed file "c:\winnt\system32\directx\dx95.tmp\d3dx9_33_x86_xp.inf" blocked (server install). Error 1168: Element not found.#W187 Install failed, attempting to restore original files. I get exactly the same error for the IEAK. I tried setting the Driver Signing Policy to ignore, to no avail. The closest support article I can find is this one http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;883912 However since I'm deploying the April 2007 release of directx 9, it includes the files listed in that article. Any ideas? Simon

Some clarifying questions: In the task sequence, are you installing IEAK or DirectX 9 using the Install Software task sequence action? If so, then you've create a package containing IEAK or DirectX 9, and a program that has the command line that is being run? And that command line is "DXSETUP.EXE /silent"? But then I don't understand why this information would be in the Windows setupapi.log file.

Firstly, some good news. Internet Explorer now works,I changed the command line to /r:n /q:a, previously it was just /r:n (suppress reboot) Secondly, clarifation, Yes I am using Install Software, DirectX 9 is a package with a program using the command line dxsetup.exe /silent. smsts.log as follows --- Install Software failed, hr=0xfffffff7 Process completed with exit code 4294967287 --- regards, Simon

Hi,Did anyone find a solution to this? I am experiencing the same issue. Config Manager task sequence exit code 4294967287. Hi,I don't have a solution but experienced the same issue as we prepared a standardized Engineering Image containing some Autodesk applications. Unfortunately it's currently "by design" that DX does not support installing in the background when no user has logged into the system (like during a TaskSequence). From the April 2007 Release the *x86_xp_inf and *x64_xp.inf files are not being code signed. I had a support case open about this but they weren't able to find any way around this. So we ended up creating the base image via ts, made the necessary changes by hand (e.g. instaling DirectX) and then ran a capture ts to use it for further deployment. Using MDT to create the Reference image should also be an option as the ts in mdt is logging on to the system so Directx installation should work. Any solution for this? I know that dxsetup /silent is supported in Software Distrebution as silent command, but in TS it fails. I try to install full package of Direct X 9.0c July 2010 to a Windows XP machine. Log from smsts.log: Install Software failed, hr=0xfffffff7 Failed to run the action: Install Direct X 9.0c. Unknown error (Error: FFFFFFF7; Source: Unknown) The execution of the group (Setup Operating System) has failed and the execution has been aborted. An action failed. Operation aborted (Error: 80004004; Source: Windows) TSManager 22.6.2011 16:35:02 2792 (0x0AE8)
