I want to hyperlink from a word document to a place (definition) in a separate document. Both documents are in SharePoint. (It's a policy document that includes terms that need to be linked to their definition in a separate document.)

Do you want to insert a hyperlink linked to a document in SharePoint online to another document in SharePoint online?

You could open the document you want to insert hyperlink and click Hyperlink button under INSERT tab, then select the document you want link to or type the link of the document.
