Hyper-V Planned Failover "Unable to validate if the Replica virtual machine is ready for reverse replication.

Hi,

I am trying to carry out a planned failover in Hyper-v. Replication is working and there are no issues with that. When I right click the machine and select planned failover, i check the box "reverse the replication direction after failover" and the box "start the replica virtual machine after failover. The planned failover fails at the second step, "check replica virtual machine state" with a reason of "could not validate".

I am able to go to the replica server and do a "failover" but this would only be done in case the main server goes down.

Anyone have any ideas? Thank you. I would have included an image but my account is not "validated" yet...

Hi Sir,

First please ensure that hyper-v server in  Primary and Replica site are running same  operating system .

Generally , when the replica VM in replica site want to perform "failover" you just need to shutdown the replica VM on primary site then click "failover" for replica vm on replica site then you will get this prompt to select which recovery point you need:

(I can not test your case in my lab , because I have 2012 and 2012R2 server , they are different )

I would suggest you to right click that VM then click "cancel failover" on primary and replica server  then offline the primary server ,after that please try to failover that vm without checking "Reverse the replication direction after failover " .

At last online primary server then  manually reverse replication .

If the above things still doesn't work , please try to re-enable replica as a workaround .

Best Regards,

El
