Hyper-V 2012 R2 Networking Issue

Hi everyone,

I configured my hyper-v server 2012 r2 with four NIC's cards. I teamed two, one for the management and the last one for the VM's traffic. I uncheck the "allow management when setting up the external switch, but my question is, when I set up the internal switch using the VM NIC, for some reason, my VM's were not able to communicate and were not getting an IP address neither. Do I have to assign an IP address to the VM's statically?

Hi,

if you really need a helpful answer, we need more details about the infrastructur, e.g. DHCP, Subnets, details of Teaming, NIC Vendor,...

In the productive environment, virtual Server (not Client Workstation) get fixed IPs with a DNS and maybe a Gateway.

hi Johan,

when I set up the internal switch using the VM NIC, for some reason,

You mean, you created internal switch in hyper-v network settings and your VMs are assigned to this internal switch? You want to communicate with these VM's from your production network?

If yes, you cannot communicate with these VMs' from your production network. Internal switch allows communication between VM's in the same physical server and between VM and host server.

my VM's were not able to communicate and were not getting an IP address neither

If you want to get DHCP IP from production network, then  you must assign your VM networks to external switch which is connected to your production network. Or, you must configure DHCP server within internal network.
