Hyper-V - VM Fibre channel disk missing at restart

Hi there,

We currently have a customer with a Windows Server 2012 (NOT R2) Hyper-V Failover Cluster. On this cluster we have 3 virtual machines. Each VM runs smoothly as you would expect.

We also have an HP SAN. We used the Virtual Fibre Channel adapters to mount LUN's directly to the 3 VM's. We did it by adding the MPIO role on each VM, and it worked fine. We have 3 VM's with 3 lun's mounted.

However, if we restart a VM, the LUN dissapears. I found a workaround to make it appear again. I Move it to the other node and back again, and the disk appears again. But after a restart, again the LUN goes missing. We can't just keep manually move a VM everytime the LUN doesn't appear, this isn't normal.

Mind you, there are absolutely no errors that i am aware of. Nothing red appears, the lun just doesnt appear until i failover it to another node. Is there a service i should delay on the VM?

Any ideas?

Hi George,

After rebooting please try to use powershell command :

"rescan" | diskpart

Hi,

To no avail. It doesn't do anything. I get the usual Diskpart has finished scanning.... and when i refresh in Windows Explorer, the disk is still missing. The disk is missing in computer management as well.

Mind you, after failovering it to the other node then failing it back, the disk appears........
