Howto increase diskspace on server with SCCM(vm)
Situation: SCCM 2007 SP2 R2, remote SQL-server. SCCM server is a VM (ESX 3.5) with 4 disks (OS, Data, Programdisk(sccm install), pagefile). I've tried to increase the diskspace of the data disk on the SCCM server. I did shutdown the server, increased the diskspace with Editing the settings of the VM. After that I start the server with a acronis(iso) tool, with that tool I was able to increase the partition(like Diskpart). After booting the server the disk was increased, so at first sight all seems to be OK, also no problems in de Windows logs. I was not able to connect to the SCCM database with the admin console. I've tried to fix it with reboots of the server and restarting services, unfortane nothing was working. Finally I restored the VM from a backup I made before increasing the data disk, after the restore SCCM was working properly. Are there any standard for increasing disks in combination with SCCM. Like using Diskpart. I guess the Acronis tool was the problem but I'm not sure.

I completed the same task with Shadow Protect without any issues.Blair Muller

Hi Blair, I did a restore of the complete VM. So the disk was not increased any more after that. So you probably increased the disk in VMware, increase the partition with Acronis en after that you did a restore of the data on the disk?

I know it can be done and shouldn't interfere with ConfigMgr. I know we needed more space and the server admin droppped in several new drives, expanded the partition and then in several hours we were back up and running. I will see if I can get the info for you. http://www.sccm-tools.com http://sms-hints-tricks.blogspot.com

I created a new VM with the new hard disk sizes, booted with Shadow Protect and restored the images on the new hard disks. You could also use VM converter to do itBlair Muller

I had a problem with double entries in WMI (old site code). I've checked this article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb932190.aspx, in step 5 there two lines in the target site code, one of them was an old site code, I've removed that line and everything works like a charm.
