I followed the steps given by Kevin in the belwo blog: http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2011/08/03/opsmgr-2007-r2-cu5-rollup-hotfix-ships-and-my-experience-installing-it.aspx?PageIndex=2#comments I got struck at Step # 7 : "Apply the hotfix to my agents by approving them from pending ". My Agents never came in Pending Management. I also got to know from Kevin that: ****************************************************************** Agents are placed into pending actions based on the following criteria: 1. Agents are only placed into pending at the time the CU is applied – placing agents into pending is a post-install action of the CU itself. 2. Agents will only be placed into pending that are directly assigned to the RMS/MS that is being updated. 3. Agents will only be placed into pending if their “Remotely Manageable” flag is set to true/yes. If an agent(s) is not placed into pending upon patching a RMS/MS with a CU, one of the following is true: 1. The agent(s) did not meet the criteria above. 2. The CU failed, or was not applied correctly, in order to allow the pending agent insert action to occur. The most common causes of this are not following instructions, not running from an elevated CMD (UAC), the management server needs a reboot from a previous MSI installation, not running from the splash screen, etc…. If you feel neither 1 or 2 apply, then the steps in the CU are failing for some external reason (DNS resolution, lack of resources, etc..) and only troubleshooting via the CU log will offer a solution. ****************************************************************** All the criteria mentioned by Kevin are met with my agents, but still they dont appear in Pending. Is Anyone aware of the CU5 log location on the RMS/MS/SQL ? I will go through them and see if I can find something there. Thanks in advance. Thanks & regards, Sumit Agrawal

Once CU5 upgrade has been applied on RMS, MS and the SCOM SQL server. How to upgrade the SCOM agents pointing to this SCOM zone? From what i know , after applying CU5 upgrade on the RMS , MS and SQL, SCOM agents will appear in Pending Management and we have to manually approve the agents from there. But in my scenerio, I dont see any agents in Pending Management after appplying CU5 on SCOM RMS, MS and SQL. can any body please help me here?

CHeck on the management server(s) if you see the patch file belonging to this CU number in the folder "C:\program files\system center operations manager 2007\agentmanagement\". Check in both the 32 and 64 bit folders if you see the patch files there. If the files are not there than the patch was not applied fully. SO I understand that your agents are remotely manageable and you did the patch on the management server those agents are assigned to (the points from Kevin). If so than you are right that they should appear in pending management. On to the install of the CU. DId you have UAC turned off? DId you run the setup from the full downloaded file (the big one of 1,4 GB or something like that)? Best to right click that setup and select run as administrator. DId you run it with an account that is both local admin and scom admin at least? DId you get three popups with installation wizards while installing the update?Bob Cornelissen - BICTT (My BICTT Blog) - Microsoft Community Contributor 2011 Recipient

Hi, How did you upgrade to CU5? I followed Kevin's blog without any problems at all: http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2011/08/03/opsmgr-2007-r2-cu5-rollup-hotfix-ships-and-my-experience-installing-it.aspxPlease remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Did you install the new MPs provided with the CU5 ?Christopher Keyaert - My OpsMgr/SCOM & Opalis/Orchestrator blog : http://scug.be/blogs/christopher

Also, how did you install the agents in the first place? If you installed the agents manually or through script or SCCM for instance they are are not manageable through the scom console. If you deployed those agents through SCOM push mechanism (scom discovery) than those agents should appear in pending management in the scom console after upgrading your management servers to CU5.Bob Cornelissen - BICTT (My BICTT Blog) - Microsoft Community Contributor 2011 Recipient

Hi, Please check the “patch list” of the agents: How do I know which hotfixes have been applied to which agents? http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2008/06/24/how-do-i-know-which-hotfixes-have-been-applied-to-which-agents.aspx Meanwhile, please also refer to the methods in the following thread: Agents not appearing in Pending Management for upgrade from CU2 to CU3 http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/operationsmanagerdeployment/thread/d40e98eb-d355-4bda-8da3-c40a5de869d3 If the issue persists, please also check if there is any related error in the Event Log on the management server and the agent sides; if so, please let us know the details. Hope this helps. Thanks.Nicholas Li - MSFT Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
