How to set-up MOSS 2007?
Hello folks, I am very new to the sharepoint world and want to be sure to set this up properly the first time. I need to do this myself at this point to get buy in from managment. After that we may be able to hire a consultant to run with it. Background ~ I need to have one list that contains project information like Project Title, Project Manager, Sponsor, Deadline, etc... And have an individual, internal site for each of these list items. I would like to be able to link a webpart in each of the child pages to the list content from the main list so changes to the project can be done in one place and dynamicly populated to any other location that uses the information. Question ~ Can you share some best practices on how to structure this? (MOSS 2007) Cheers, ~B

Ought we to assume that you have already installed MOSS 2007? Please also inform if this is the Standard or the Enterprise edition and how many servers with what roles you have in your farm. P.S. The idea that you set it up yourself and then get a consultant to run it is imo completely the wrong way round. You need the consultant to set it up correctly. Once that is done running it is something that you can do yourself. Hi Mike and thanks for the reply. Here is some more info. Our company has had a MOSS 2007 Enterprise installed and running for a couple years. More or less, we use it as nothing more than a file server to save and share documents and stack versions. My task is to show the company all of the "other" powers of MOSS 2007 and then to get buy in from management to bring in a consultant to "re-build" our MOSS architecture.

It might be better to start a new thread that concentrates entirely on that aspect. I.e. "what are the MOSS (Std + Enterprise) functions I can easily demonstrate for management so that we can start using MOSS for more than just sharing documents and versioning". One quite impressive yet easy to do thing would be to show off workflows using SPD 2007. I've chosen that because it's not at all difficult to do as it's virtually menu driven and yet you can do all sorts of interesting-looking things. (That is usually something you can also do with WSS 3.0 so it doesn't really push any of the many additional functions in MOSS 2007 - sometimes I wonder why people pay the relatively heavy costs of MOSS 2007 (in your case even the Ent. version!) compared with WSS 3.0 yet don't use any of the MOSS only functions). But as I wrote, consider starting a new thread. This one gives the wrong impression in the first post. (Write a reply here if you do start a new thread so that there won't be parallel threads).
