How to send SSRS reports to the mailbox without SendAs permissions in SMTP server
Hi all, Currenly we have a case in China to build a reporting web application with SSRS enterprise edition 2008. We need to send the SSRS reports to the boss monthly, but we don't have an e-mail account with SendAs permissions. Of course, if we handle this case by standard subscriptions, there would be a failure message in the SSRS. Could i handle the case by sending the mail to SMTP server via local SMTP virtual server? Pls. kindly help me on the case. Thanks a lot!

What I understand is that you can send the email using SMTP server. You can just put any email address in SendAs. Give it a go.regards Natraj www.BItipsntricks.com Mark as Answer, if it is answer for your Question. Vote as Helpful, if it is helpful to you.

I know that's the best solution for the case. But that needs several weeks for applying it. If possible, i'd like to find other ways to handle it. Thanks for your nice advice. best regards, Jason

Hi Jason, When configuring a report server for e-mail delivery, it requires an account that has permission to send e-mail from the SMTP server. As for the SMTP Virtual Server method, I am afraid it cannot accomplish the email delivery either. Please understand that SMTP is used to forward mail from one SMTP host to another, while SMTP cannot deliver mail directly to the client. Before you try to send the email via SMTP Virtual Server, you need to confirm with the administrator of the target SMTP Server that messages sent from your SMTP Virtual Server can be accepted by the target SMTP Server. To work around the issue, I suggest that you use the File Share delivery extension to distribute reports to shared folders that are accessible over network connections. For the detailed information, please see: File Share Delivery in Reporting Services Hope this helps. Regards, Mike Yin
