How to restore WSS 3.0 on reinstalled machine?
Hello, I've got server failure and I have now new machine. It contains the same configuration, same name and same applications. I've got new installation of WSS 3.0 SP2 based on SQL Express 2008 R2. From old machine I've got 3 bak files from SQL (WSS_Content, Sharepoint_AdminContent and Sharepoint_Config) and folder WSS from IIS. How to restore old content on new machine? When I replace WSS_Content and Sharepoint_AdminContent with old dbases, I'm getting http error 400. How to restore content to my WSS? Regards Leszek

You would need to do a reinstall of WSS and then attch the content DB ( WSS_content). Its easier to run through the install and then just attach the content DB to the new web application.

Thanks for answer. What means "attach DB"? In Management Studio or In Central Administration? What means :Run throught the install"? What steps I must do? Regards Leszek

Hi, first you have to complete PSConfig wizard and once your central admin will be up and running, start creating web applications. After creating web applications detach content DB of that site and run following command to attach content DB to the site stsadm.exe -o addcontentdb -url <URL name> -databasename <database name> before attaching content DB using above command you have to restore it to new SQL machine if you are using a new SQL server. hope this helps.Regards, Pratik Vyas | SharePoint Consultant | http://sharepointpratik.blogspot.com/
