Situation is this. According to information we have found, you cannot use rename a distribution point once made a distribution point.
With that being stated, we have hundreds on distribution points in remote locations throughout country (These are all servers, 2003 and 2008 R2).
At least 2 or 3 servers go down during the month and have to be replaced. Because of the rename problem, what we have being trying to do with limited success is thru SCCM2012 we remove dp role from server, then we delete the site system. We delete the server from the collection. Then we remove the client agent if server is still reachable.
Our understanding now is that SCCM will eventually remove this server from the database. Once this is done we can use the same name for the replacement DP.
We have to use same name due to printer shares. We are not allowed to interfer with user experience in trhese locations. it always needs to be seamless to them.
After waiting hours and days prior to readding new server in SCCM we have some success - about 50%.
We believe that after we do what we previously stated that there should be some way to ensure record deletion from database, and also in a way that would be more real time. (our thoughts is some sort of query in the database that removes this record).
We are in the middle of an OSD deployment to over 15000 systems from XP to 7 and any assistance would very greatly apprecited. eagerly await responses.
