When we have environments like DEV / QA / UAT / PROD for the SharePoint 2013 provider hosted app model development, how does the certificate renewal or any update on the app / remote app can be handled?

Do we need to make change on the app project after getting the new certificate and release it as next version?

Hi,

Renewing only certificate don't have to make change on the App project. Actually the process about renewing certificate for high trusted app has been described in the following article:

Please check the part "Complete debugging with a domain issued or commercial certificate". In general, you have to import the new certificate to SharePoint, create a new SPTrustedSecurityTokenIssuer, and then update the web.config file of your App.
