How to prevent indexing of embedded objects ?

Hello,

We're using SP2010 and we would like to know if it is possible to control indexing of embedded objects.

More precisely, we would like to prevent indexing of embedded objects in office documents.

Do you have knowledge of a parameter for this ?

Thanks,

Sebastien

Hi Sebastien,

If we just copy and paste the contents form an Excel file, the content will be part of the Word file. We can prevent our issue from happening with embedded object.

Please follow the steps below to insert an embedded object from an Excel file to Word file:

  1. Open both the Word document and the Excel worksheet that contains the data that you want to create an embedded object from.
  2. Switch to Excel, and then select the entire worksheet, a range of cells, or the chart that you want.
  3. Press CTRL+C.
  4. Switch to the Word document, and then click where you want the information to appear.
  5. On the Home tab, in the Clipboard group, click the arrow under Paste, and then click Paste Special.

  1. In the As list, select Microsoft Office Excel object.
  2. Click Paste to insert an embedded object, or click Paste link to insert a link to the object.

After the steps below, please run full crawl, and search again.

Hello Dean,

Thanks very much for your answer.

Here is the example where we have the problem.

As you can see in this screen shot, there is an embedded excel objet in the word document named "E00853-RAT-GGU calcul du ratio V3 12.doc".

And when we do a search, on the text "TU90", the search finds the document.

If we try to do CTRL+F in the word document, we can not find the text "TU90", so it is not present elsewhere than in the embedded object.

Best regards,

Sebastien
