How to prevent indexing of embedded objects ?

Hello,

We're using SP2010 and we would like to know if it is possible to control indexing of embedded objects.

More precisely, we would like to prevent indexing of embedded objects in office documents.

Do you have knowledge of a parameter for this ?

Thanks,

Sebastien

no, a search engine like google supports NOT indexing parts of a page, but the SharePoint search engine either indexes the entire page or not.

Hello Margriet,

Thanks for your answer.

I was asking for indexing of office documents.

for example, you have a Word document which contains an excel object inside (embedded object),

Sharepoint 2010 will index the excel object, this is what we don't want.

Best regards,

Sebastien

Hi Sebastien,

If the requirement to not index embedded objects is critical, then you might consider upgrading to SharePoint 2013 as it's search engine (based on FAST) does not index embedded objects by default.

Hello Paul,

Thanks for your answer, we're not ready to go with SP2013

Our problem is that the search returns documents where people can't find the keyword when they open it, because when they look for the text whith CTRL+F it is not found in embedded objects, so it's useless, especially for big documents.
