How to preset domain join account in SCCM User Driven Installation?

Hi. I want to achieve a User Driven Installation with SCCM (SCCM R3 with MDT 2010 U1) I change the UDIWizard_Config.xml file in MDT package with UDI Wizard Designer. I'd like end users to select what OU their computers should reside in and set their computer name. But I don't want them to enter the domain join credentials manually. I also tried to enter the credential in customsettings.ini but the credential does not appear in OSD setup wizard. I also couldn't find a place to enter the credentials in UDI Wizard Designer. What should I do to preset the necessary credential to come up in the wizard?

It mentions:

I am a little confused for the domain join question. Though I think I know what you might be talking about. When you add a domainyou can specify alternate creds for pulling down a list of OUs. You don't have to do this you can connect if you want to use the logged on user creds for connecting to the domain. This does not get stored in the configuration however. If you want to specify creds and not ask the end user for them then you canspecify collection or task sequence variables for the join account and password variables.

Hi,

Here is a list of all the variables used for UDI.

http://blogs.technet.com/b/cameronk/archive/2010/12/28/which-task-sequence-variables-are-read-and-set-by-the-udi-wizard.aspx

set the task sequence variables

OSDJoinAccount
OSDJoinPassword

then you should be all set.

You rock guys! Thank you for the info. But now my TS fails after adding the variables, they prepopulate the wizard though ;) I don't know if it failed because of the variables. Any idea why it might have failed? Here is the smsts.log http://wikisend.com/download/183956/smsts - Copy.log

I started from scratch using the default udiwizard config file and everything worked perfectly. Thank you for pointing me to the right variables ;)

I'm trying to do the exact same thing. Where did you set the variables?

I just want the techs to be able to create a custom computer name and not have to fill in credentials. Right now it's greyed out.

Nevermind... I had the same issue as you, for some reason I needed to start from scratch with the default udiwizard config file.

Cheers!

I set the variables at the very beginning of the user driven installation task sequence. Set the name of the variable and its value. I presume you know how to add a ts variable :)

Hello.

Did you figure this out. I also want my techs to be able to type computer name, but not have them type the password to the account to join domain.

Do I set this in the UDI Wizard or do I set this in the TS?

Hi,

You set the two Task sequence variables needed as described above in the Task Sequnece to have the user/password for domain join preset, and then you configure in the UDI wizard what options should be visible to the end user.
