How to populate web parts in pages which are already created using custom page layout in SP2013?

Hi All,

I have 50+ pages created using custom page layout. I have added a web part zone snippet to my custom page layout it is reflecting on all the pages created using this page layout. But when i add web part snippet within web part zone in custom page layout..It is not reflecting

Do i need to re-create all the pages? Or is there any possible workaround.

Thanks in advance..!!

Hi Sunita,

I tested the same scenario per your post, and I got the same results as you got.

It seems that it is by design as the web parts added to the web part zone are for new pages.(You can view the comment inside a web part zone snippet)

If you want to make the web part to be displayed in existing pages, I recommend to add the web part in other places other than web part zones in the page layout.

Hi Victoria,

Thanks for replying..!!

I tried adding web part outside web part zone. It is populated to already created page. but in doing so we don't get option to configure web part properties later.

As per requirement, I have to add Content Search Web Part with in Web part zone to my custom page layout. So that i can configure queries on pages.

Sunita

Hi Sunita,

However, the web part added to web part zone will only be added to the new pages.

You may need to re-create the existing pages or you can use script to add the web part to a page using PowerShell.
