How to negotiate to get an ETL project?
Hi, We are a new company working on BI and are trying to get a BI project. There is a sale system that works on 30 cities with the same OLTP database but data bases are not centralized. All databases are Oracle and the manager wants to integrate them into MS SQL SERVER or DB2. We are trying to get the project but we have a little experience in ETL. Please help us to go ahead: How to negotiate? Totally what are the tasks of an ETL PROCESS? What are the probable risks? How much time it would be take? Is there any questionnaire to extract business needs for a BI project? Is it possible for someone to share some experience with us? We will very thankful for helps. Regards

Hello Farhad, ETL is Extract Transform and Load, SSIS offers just such an option. If you have a SQL Server license then SSIS is included. To negotiate you would need to come up with a proposal on how much time it will take and the dollar value of the endeavor. The risks can be many, you need to do an assessment on their situation re hardware and software. You did not post enough info re what the integration is about. In general though you may need some extra components as Oracle Destinations/Sources http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=11180 Then as the project unfolds start reading relevant info as posts or articles, make sure to come here with questions.Arthur My Blog

The risks are limited, if you have people who know what they are doing. I would recommend you hire temporary specialized consultant, to help you come up with an estimate. If not possible, come up with a rough estimate and then multiply by x 2.5 . Present this number and pray you fit the budget.SSIS Tasks Components Scripts Services | http://www.cozyroc.com/
