How to move OpsMgr 2007 Data Warehouse DB to SCOM 2012 environment
I am running SCOM 2007 R2 CU4 as a single management group with two management servers. I am building a brand new SCOM 2012 CU1 with 4 VMs and a physical SQL server to replace my 2007R2 environment. My question is since I am not upgrading my existing SCOM2007R2 environment, will I be able to move just my Data Warehouse DB from 2007 r2 to SCOM 2012 and run the upgrade on it? If yes, what steps do I need to follow before I can move the database? I have almost two year worth of historical data in our data warehouse that cant lose at any cost In other words I am trying to find out what will happen if I Use the existing data warehouse from a different management group option during my SCOM 2012 install wizard, will scom 2012 Also start reporting to my old scom 2007 data warehouseWill the 2012 scom install upgrade my 2007 data warehouse while it's still attached to scom 2007 r2Will it break my 2007 r2 instance? please advice! Hi My question is since I am not upgrading my existing SCOM2007R2 environment, will I be able to move just my Data Warehouse DB from 2007 r2 to SCOM 2012 and run the upgrade on it? No - this is not possible. You cannot use a SCOM 2007 R2 database with a SCOM 2012 Management Server and you cannot just move a SCOM 2007 R2 database to SCOM 2012. The upgrade process upgrades the database. You need to do a supported upgrade of SCOM 2007 R2 to SCOM 2012 or build a new SCOM 2012 environment, migrate and accept the loss of historical data. A final alternative is to multi-home the agents. Build a new SCOM 2012 Management Group and have the agents report to both the old SCOM 2007 R2 Management Group and the new SCOM 2012 Management Group. This isn't a long term solution though. It would allow you to build up some historical data in the new SCOM 2012 Management Group before decommissing SCOM 2007 R2 but you would still have to switch off the SCOM 2007 R2 Management Group after a set period of time.
