How to monitor internet access through a proxy server
Hi,
We sometimes experience internet access performce issues and I would like to monitor this with SCOM
I have built a SCOM server and have successfully configured monitoring and alerting for internet access from the server. Computers on the server VLAN do not need to authenticate against the proxy server. I used proxycfg to configure the proxy server details
and the testing works. Every 2 minutes a web site is accessed and if the respons time is over 3 seconds an alert is generated
I would now like to do the same thing through a SCOM agent on a test PC. This means the agent process will need to be proxy aware.
We are usng a Bluecoat proxy and the users credentials are automatically passed for proxy authentication so the agent process will also need to run under the context of a domain user.
The email alerts I receive only show the time was exceeded. It would be good if they showed the actual response times.
I am completely new to SCOM so would appreciate an idiots step by step guide for a way of achieving this monitoring.
My longer term goal would be to also have a dasboard that in some way displays internet access performance
Thanks.
