How to monitor email flow/routing with a SMTP mail server.
Hey Team, we have a SMTP Mail server (not Exchange or lotus or etc) which sends bulk e-mails to our recipiants across the globe (kind of surveys). we need to create a email loop back monitor which can monitor the mail flow (sending \ receiving) to hotmail\AOL\Yahoo etc. We have already been monitoring this using SiteScope but we need to do it using SCOM R2. not usre if this is possible. In brief: SMTP Mailserver sends a E-mail to AOL and receives mail from AOL (auto reply is already in place). This runs every 15min. Please let me know if you need any further information. -Vrkumar01

Does this mailserver has logs or writes his events to the Windows Event Logs? You can also use a TCP Port Monitor which checks If the mailserver is reachable at mostly port 25. How to Create a TCP Port Monitor Have you checked at Pinpoint If the vendor of the mailserver you are using in this case has a created a management pack?
