How to monitor Hyper-V server 2008 R2 with SCOM 2007 R2
Hello - We are moving into Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 and wanted to know how to monitor this server build. I read it is supported however if I try my default discover and push method via the console it fails saying it does not meet the install criteria. I know Hyper-V server is quite slimmed down so I am thinking there is a command line method of installing the MP. Any direction or guidance would be wonderful! Thank you, Brendan

MP's are not installed or pushed to specific servers. Do you mean agent installation is failing with the "does not meet" message?Microsoft Corporation

Being able to monitor Hyper V is one of the big selling points of hyper v. You need to discover the servers to begin with. Then get the agent on them and then some management packs. If they dont discover then its something to do with your account, sql broker etc. Here is a good guide on agent install and discovery http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2009/01/27/console-based-agent-deployment-troubleshooting-table.aspx http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2007/12/12/agent-discovery-and-push-troubleshooting-in-opsmgr-2007.aspx Then for the MP, there is a MP on MS's MP site, and its ok and its the first MP you need to have installed as it setups up all your base classes. But There is another great MP for free of bridgways http://www.bridgeways.ca/downloads.phpPaul Keely

Just wanted to thank everyone for these great responses. There was a little more to the story and should have looked at the issue I was expereiencing a little more before posting. Indeed agent installs are done the same simple way just like the other windows servers we manage. What happened was I kept the same name of the server, I then ran a "repair" on the newly loaded Hyper-V server (it was previously 2008 R2 enterprise) and just needed to uninstall and reinstall instead. The great news is monitoring Hyper-V server is just as easy! Thanks again. Brendan
