How to manage Windows updates with System Centre Configuration Manager 2012 ?

Hi

I have recently installed System Centre Configuration Manager 2012 on Windows 2008 R2 64-bit Server. This server already had WSUS 3.0 SP2 installed and currently windows updates are managing via WSUS server ( Using Windows Upadtes Group Policy ).

-I'd like to know how to manage Windows updates via SCCM 2012 instead of using WSUS & Group Policy ?

-How can I redirect windows workstations to contact directly to SCCM 2012 for windows updates ?

-Do I need to remove existing group policy for windows updates from Active directory ?

Also in SCCM 2012 when I checked under Monitoring>System Status >Component Status then I've found  a the status of SMS_WSUS_CONFIGURATION_MANAGER is Critical

I don't know what does it mean and how to fix this critical error.

Can someone help ?SSCN 2012 - WSUS Configuration error

Thanks

Sohail

Check WCM.log to get details about the error in the component status.
Yes, you should remove existing GPOs. ConfigMgr creates a local policy that tells the clients the SUP location.

Thanks for your reply.

Can you provide me any step by step document or guide to manage windows updates by using WSUS & SCCM 2012 together as I'm still confused about how to manage windows updates by using WSUS & SCCM 2012.

Thanks

See http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682168.aspx.
You can no longer WSUS as a standalone product if it's integrated in CM12 (SUP).

Thanks for your reply.I need one more advice for you regarding re-installation of WSUS as per following article:

http://sccmfaq.wordpress.com/2011/11/07/sccm-2012updates-management/#more-201

Actually WSUS was pre-installed before SSCM 2012 on this machine, so If I will uninstall and re-install WSUS as per above article, does it break the SCCM 2012 ?

Thanks

It's safe to uninstall / reinstall WSUS if you did not yet set up a SUP.

Thanks once again for your prompt reply.

How can I check if I have already setup a SUP  ?

OR

In case if I have already done that and if remove/uninstall WSUS , then what would be the impact on SCCM 2012 ?

Thanks
