How to make Software Updates Available for Offline Installation

Greetings,

Is it possible to create a deployment that makes software updates available to install through the Software Center application while offline?  I have tested making them available but it appears the client must have access to a distribution point at the time of installation to download the updates.

It would be nice if this scenario was possible so that if a laptop user wants to install updates and restart at a time that's convenient while away from the office it can be done.

Thanks.

Correct. Available deployment do not pre-download or pre-cache content.

Required deployments do however. Thus, simply set your update deployment to required and set the deadline date out to future date sometime in the near (or distant) future.

Does the client notify them of the impending deadline before all the updates have been cached, or does it wait until it's "locked and loaded"

The two are independent. The client notifies the interactive user of the deadline regardless of the cache status of updates if you have notification enabled. If a user happens to trigger the updates before they are all cached, then it will continue to download the ones it hasn't and proceed with the install. If the user happens to be offline at the time, I'm not totally sure what would happen. I would hope it would install the updates it had previously downloaded and simply postpone the others until it can access their content, but I'm not sure if it will and may just stall waiting for the content of all updates selected. I don't know the likelihood of this scenario though as it depends upon many factors.
