How to integrate CM12 with Riverbed Appliance for DP role

Hi Folks

There is a requirement to deploy softwares/applications across WAN to the client branch offices spread across the globe where network bandwidth is a constraint. So we have a mandate to implement riverbed appliance (http://www.riverbed.com/us/products/steelhead_appliance/rsp.php) which is to be integrated with CM12 & then it'll perform DP role.

I've gone through many documents & white papers of riverbed however integration with CM12 is nowhere mentioned. Do I need to integrate RSP (Riverbed Service Platform) packages to accomplish this task? Let me know if you guys need any more information.

Can anybody guide me in this regard. I would appreciate any assistance

I think that you have to figure that out yourself as this is an unsupported scenario. That does not mean that it won't work ... just make sure to test it first!
Or you are lucky and someone else who is already using those devices with CM12 will chime in.

You can use VSP (Virtual Services Platform) on the Steelhead EX platform and run the server virtual on the Steelhead.

CIFS prepop is then an option for SCCM to have packages prepopped on the Steelhead.  The VSP Windows SCCM server can access the CIFS share and distribute packages, or the clients can access a centralized SCCM server and use the prepopped path for the packages.

The other option is to use Steelhead EX with Granite but this will require more info.

Hi Denny

Many thanks for your reply & I appreciate your help.

Can you please let me know how do I set up CIFS prepop option for SCCM to distribute packages using Steelhead. I'm very much familiar with virtualization & VMware however I want to know that how do I setup VSP Windows SCCM server on Steelhead EX platform. If you have any reference link/forum then it would be great help for me.

Steelhead EX with Granite option is out of scope as of now.

Let me know if you need any other information from me in this regard.

Hi Torsten -

Can you (or anyone) comment further on Microsoft support when using Riverbed Steelhead appliances in lieu of traditional Distribution Point site servers for remote sites? I've come across this configuration and would like to help set expectations should issues be encountered. Does Microsoft have an official, documented position?
