How to install FIM Portal with MOSS 2007 server ?
We would like to utilize our existing SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007 server for FIM portal. This will provide scallability and redundancy (since our SharePoint front-end servers are clustered). Where can I find the documentation for this senario ? Our environment consists of:1. One SQL2008 server to be used for both FIM sync and FIM portal dbs2. One W2k8 SP1 x64: - We installed FIM Sync service on this server as the 1st step - After the completion of FIM sync service installation, we installed 'The Service & Portal' option as the 2nd step. We only selected the FIM Service option (deselected FIM Portal and FIM pwd Selfservice portal options since we want to install these options on our existing MOSS 2007 servers. Installation was completed successfully.3. Existing MOSS 2007 server: - On this server, we installed the 'Service & Portal' option again. This time, we deselected the FIM Service option. The install program prompts for the FIM Service Server address. This is where we are so confused ? Is it the address of the FIM server (that we installed the FIM sync service) or it is the MOSS server address? Anyway, we tried both and the install program indicated that it could not find the server ??? Any information is graceful. Thanks.

The FIM Service Server address is the location of the server where you installed the FIM Service. Each of the components can be installed separately. The FIM Service, the FIM Portal, the FIM sync service can all be on different servers. The FIM Service database, the FIM Sync Service, the WSS databases can also all be separated.David Lundell www.ilmBestPractices.com

Finally, we did install the FIM portal on our MOSS server successfully after my posting in the blog. The issue that we encountered during the installation caused by our custom branding solution. After we uninstalled the custom branding solution, installed FIM portal without any errors. We plan to re-apply our custom branding solution later. Will post the update.

Hello, After installation all modules, we have installed the FIM Portal and FIM Portal Service on one Front-End Servers. The Server are on a SharePoint Farm, do I need to run the installation of FIM Portal and FIM Portal Service on the second Frond End server or should it be managed by the SharePoint Farm? By virtue of it being a farm and the FIM Portal being a SharePoint Solution the FIM Portal should already be on your second Front-End Server. If you want an additional instance of the FIM Service then yes you would need to install it on the 2nd front end server. You will need to pay careful attention to how you are load balancing and setting up your SPNs. Remember installing on MOSS 2007 is not supported.
