How to include an external image in email.
Using SSRS 2008 R2 we have developed a form that is to be automatically emailed to outside clients. Within this form we are including our company logo. I have found several ways of doing this, however, they all end up with the logo being "copied" into the email as an image. We would like the logo to populate from a link located on our web server instead of as a copied image. Is this possible in SSRS and if so...how? Thank you.

Hi Mcornejo_1, Thanks for your question. Base on your description, I understand that you would like populate the logo on your report from a link located on your web server instead of a copied image, right? If I misunderstand your question, please let me know. Actually, in order to utilize an external image, you should first upload the image to a location where your mail receivers have permissions to access it, here I suggest you to choose your Report Manager as your web server, and the image’s URL on Report Manager is just the link for external image source, like this: “http://<servername>/Reports/Pages/Resource.aspx?ItemPath=/<foldername>/<imagename>” ,for detail steps, please follow below: Supposing your servername is Myserver, image name is logo.jpg, it will be uploaded in Company folder, 1. Open Internet Explorer, open your Report Manager, open your folder that you will upload logo.jpg. 2. Click the button of Upload File, navigate to your logo.jpg, type logo in the Name textbox, click OK. 3. Click your Report Item which contains logo.jpg, select Image Properties, select External in the drop-down list of Select the image source. 4. In the drop-down list of Use this image, type in: http://Myserver/Reports/Pages/Resource.aspx?ItemPath=/Company/logo, click OK. Thank you for responding Sharp Wang. I have new information how we will be accessing the logo. Our network admin is requiring we use a link to an external source where our logo is being hosted, http://www.elangham.com/Images/LanghamLogos/LanghamLogoHorz.aspx I have entered this link as you instructed above, however, it still being rendered into the email as a copied image as opposed to being linked to the address above.

Hi Mcornejo_1: Thanks for your reply. After further research to your question, I can reproduce the scenario of your issue with subscriptions, when the report being sent to the mailbox, the image does render as a copied image rather than an external link. It seems this is by design. In this situation, I would recommend you to submit a feedback to Microsoft Connect for this product limitation at this link: https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/Feedback This Connect site is a connection point between you and Microsoft. Your feedback enables Microsoft to make the soft and service the best they can be, Microsoft might consider to add this feature in the following release. Thanks, Sharp Wang Best Regards. Sharp Wang
