How to get rid of the windows security dialogue that asks for my domain userid and password when a Word document in an SP site is viewed in Windows 7?
We have a local domain running 2003 server and sharepoint server 2007. The domain has some win7 machines running IE8 and XP machines running IE8. On XP machines, viewing Miscrosoft document from the sharepoint site is all good. But when the same guy tries to view the same document on the same sharepoint site from win7 machine, he is asked for domain user id and password each time after he logins. If he clicks cancel, the document is downloaded any away. If he types in the user id and password and selects remembering credentials, it goes away and stays that way for the whole login session. But it will come back the next time you login. How can we get rid of this annoying windows security prompt? All is in a local domain with no internet connection involved at all. Thanks.

Hi, I suggest you to carry out these steps: 1. Open a web browser. 2. Go to Tool--> Internet Options. 3. Then move to Security--> Local Intranet Sites 4. Change the security level to Low. I hope this will help you out. Thanks, Rahul Rashu

Thank you for the reply. Tried what you said here. The original setting is medium-low and I changed it to low. Restarted IE8 on win7. The prompt for credentials still shows up. Any other ideas? I have some read of the related solutions in other posts here. None looks exactly like my case. For example, we have added the sharepoint site to the intranet zone and so on. Not sure about the cookies stuff though. Perhaps, I should also mention that all the IE8 settings are controlled through group policy in AD and regular users cannot change these settings at all. In other words, we get the same behaviour on all the xp machines for everyone and it is good. We got bad prompt on all the win7 machines for everyone too. George.

Ok, I have some more read of the posts here and the following link provides a solution to the problem that I have http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2019105/en-us The only problem is, of course, I have to make register change to all the win7 machines. It could be prohibitive if you have many machines. Thanks for forum.
