How to get Content Modification Audit Report in Office 365

Hi

We have a site in office 365 and that site is having around 10 sub sites.

I want to generate Audit Report regarding, If some one has modified master page and changed to Oslo from Seattle. should I get master page modification details in Audit Report? as who modified master page at which time?

I tried Site Settings > Site Collection Administration > Audit log Reports

and from that I clicked on Content Modification option in Content Activity Reports but I am getting below error:

Error Message: "

This report contains no data. Please ensure data for this report is being captured by the current audit settings. It may also take some time after audit settings are changed for events to surface here.

"

Can I get the Master Page Modification report or any other content Modification Report using Audit log Reports?

From Site Settings > Site Collection Administration > Site Collection Features > Reporting is already Activated.

Thanks in Advance.

> "This report contains no data"

You must first enable auditing on the lists and libraries or content types you want to audit. If you are looking for who has changed something, and you do not have auditing already enabled, then there is no data to report.

I have never enabled audits for master pages, but as the master page gallery is just a library, then you should be able to do it.

  1. Go to Settings, Site Settings and click Master Pages in the Web Designer Galleries.
  2. Click the LIBRARY tab and then Library Settings.
  3. Click Information Management Policy Settings.
  4. Click the Master Page content type.
  5. Checkmark Enable Auditing and select the things you want to audit.

If you just want to see who was the last person to change the master page, just visit the Master Page gallery and note the "Modified By" column.

I just tested the above and it worked fine. Just remember the audit logs will only contain data starting from when you enabled auditing on the list, library or content type.
