How to find which tapes were written last weekend?

Hello everyone,

Running DPM 2012 R2 here with a 48 slot HP tape library. A PG backs up our Production VMs at 8 PM from Monday to Friday. Then on Saturday morning the tapes backups are done.

We want to rotate tapes off site bi-weekly. Hence we want to take out tapes bi-weekly.

How can we find out which tapes were written to last weekend?

Sure, I could comb through the tape jobs which ran last Sunday and check what tapes they used, but that is too tedious!

PS: The PGs are set to use co-location. Co-location is set to

  • Write period of two weeks and,
  • Expiry tolerance of 7 days.

Hi,

Download the DPMJOBS-V3.0 from here ,read the directions in DPMJobs.mht and copy the files to the DPM server.

Then get the updated script that runs on DPM 2012 from here

That will let you run a report against a custom filter for tape jobs from last week and get the barcode or tape labels used for those jobs.

Hi Mike,

That is very useful. Thanks!

I do see a minor issue.....after the last step (where I import csv into the DPMJobsQ.xlsx) it shows the tape label in the status column for 'only some' of the jobs. Check it out:

PS: I hope DPM would let us export out the output of the custom filtered jobs. That is all I really need...then I could import it into excel and select the column which has the tape labels and click on the button in excel - "Remove Duplicates". That immediately shows the 4-5 tapes which DPM used last week. done!

Wishlist time!

Hi,

Yes, good feedback - please make it count.

Have feedback or a suggestion to improve DPM? We have added DPM and Azure back-up on user voice feedback forum on Azure.  We had piloted this initially with Azure backup and were thrilled with all the feedback/ideas. We have now added SCDPM to it as well. Would love to hear your ideas and feedback.  If you see an idea you like, vote for it ! If you have a new ideas, post it (the search bar will tell you if there is a similar idea so do check that before you post a new idea).
