Hello Please help  (sharepoint 2010)

I would like setup a crawl rule to

exclude  http:\root   and

include http:\root\list\

I have created a content source for http:\root and added above rules.  but not working. crawl finishes with no log. can you anyone help step by step creation of the rules for this configuration starting from content source?  Thanks in advance.

If I remember correctly once you have excluded a particular path, nothing under it will get crawled.

Can I ask why you don't want to crawl the root site? Understanding what you are trying to accomplish will help with finding the appropriate solution.

Thanks for the reply.  Root has so much of content and the list I am trying to crawl is very small.  Crawling only the list helps save disk space and addresses some security issues as well.  It is just unnecessary to crawl entire root site.  Thanks again.
