How to easily add emails & attachments to particular document libraries in SharePoint
Our client would like to take a particularemail they receive in Exchange / Outlook and send this to a particular location in a document library, to be made part of a client file. What woud be the best way to acheive this?

Have you played around with email as yet? You can send email to a WSS list / doc lib and there are a few different ways to configure it. How is the document library organized? Do you have multiple doc libs or one monolith library? Or something in between?

I am aware that a particular document library can be configured to receive email, but this ability to essentially drop all emails at the top level of a doc library is a coarser grained function than our client is looking for. The kind of scenario we have is one where there are multiple document libraries with multiple folders and level of folders within each. What the client is looking for is a solution where they can have an email open in Outlook and can, in one easy action, essentially say "put this email and any attachments associated with it in this specific doc library location".

There are at least two ways to enable a "drag and drop" functionality using Outlook where you can drag an email and drop it directly into a SharePoint library. I don't know if it will work down to the folder level but it might. 1. Use Exchange 2007 Managed Folders 2. Use a third party plug in like Colligo. Check Kathy Hughes blog at the following link for more info. Be forewarned, Colligo isn't inexpensive by any remote stretch of the imagination. http://mindsharpblogs.com/kathy/archive/2008/04/21/4587.aspx

We have solved this with an Outlook addin that sends the e-mail as an .msg file to a custom web-service on the sharepoint site. We also send to and from adresses as well as other meta data. This is used to find and link the e-mail with customers and contactsalready defined in other lists on the same site. The outlook addin isn't the prettiest solution, but it gets the job done. Especially for us as we want to link the specific e-mail with customers, orders etc.-- Christian
