How to do Lync client 2013 login to pool name instead of frontend server with HLB

Hi , our client always login to front end server name instead of pool name.

If they stay one on of the front end server their failover timeout will need more time to do.

If they connect to pool name the failover will perform quickly.

i try to manually type login server to pool name to client but the client still random choice one of the frontend server to login.

sipinternaltls SRV is point to pool name.

Thanks.

The Lync client will always connect to his home FE. Only if the server is not available, the client will switch to another available server

you setup the DNS poolname for all IP of the available FE?

The first dns entry, which the cleint serach is lyncdiscoverinternal.sip.domain. Have you create this entry?

You can also try to delete the endpoint.cache on the lync profile of the user to check if a wrong entry through this cache exist.

Hi Jo Tse,

When a client attempts to connect (register) to a Lync pool, it hits the load balancer and is connected to a pool. If the server is not the home server for the user, it is issued with a redirect to the actual home server.

In Lync 2013, users data is stored within routing groups, each routing group contains up to three Front End servers, a primary, a secondary and a tertiary. For example, if the primary server fails, the User Group fails over to the secondary server; if the secondary server fails or is unavailable when the primary fails, then the User Group fails over to the tertiary server. Now, in an extreme case where the tertiary fails, Windows Fabric elects another Front End server (assuming one is available), retrieves the persistent state information from the backend SQL Server database, and forms a new User Group for the user to log in to.

Best regards,

Eric

Hi Eric.

so you mean if the setup is correct , the user should login to pool name instead of front end server?

Hi Jo,

Yes, Eric wrote the correct info. The first time a user login in the user will connect to one of the Lync server. This will always be his home server and the user will get a redirect to his home server.

You can test this if you configure another Lync server manual and look onto the cleint trace. You will find a redirect to his home server. This will also work, if the user connect to another pool.
