How to disable automatic logout in SP
A session will timeout after, by default, 20 minutes. If the timeout is too fast, you can modify it in the IIS Manager Dialog (Properties/Home Directory/Configuration/App Option/Session Timeout). Regards, Francesco www.sharepointinside.it Hello all, I'm having a problem with SP automatically logging users out. I looked up some information on the forum but didn't find the right answer. This was the closest I could find but didn't understand his response. Users get logged out after about 20 minutes and management doesn't want them to be automatically logged out. Ever. I went into Central Administration > Application Management > Web Application General Settings and under web page security validation, turned it to "NEVER". It still continues to log people out after 20 minutes. I looked at Francesco's answer and I'm not sure where he is referring to. When I open the the IIS Manager 7.0 program, there are quite a few areas listed and on my end, nothing looks like (Properties/Home Directory/Configuration/App Option/Session Timeout). It isn't clear if each website is set individually on the right hand side or if the right hand side this applies to all of them at once. If it is individual, which one to set? The closest I could find to timing out is the Session State option on the right. They are all set to "In Process" and the cookie settings are set to expire after 20min. I'm not even sure if this has anything to do with my issue. I haven't tried changing it yet.

Hi Hemendra, The screen shots above show you what I can see in IIS. If you look above, I don't have a Websites option. Just "Sites". Right clicking on them doesn't bring up a properties option. If it helps, this is IIS 7.0 on SBS 2008. I did attempt to change the session state>>Cookie Settings (For SBS SHarePoint) to timeout in 1000 minutes; but the SharePoint website still times out after 20 minutes. So I guess that's not the spot I'm looking for. I apologize if I'm totally lost here and looking at the wrong spot. I'm not really familiar with the latest version of SBS or IIS. K

Hi Sith Vixen, Thanks for your reply. First of all, i am not able to see any screen shot here so i cant look out into error. Secondary: Above mentioned approach is for IIS6.0. I am extremely sorry for that i have forgot, you have IIS 7.0. You have to change the session time out at the server where your site is running. This is very good link to configure session time out in IIS 7.0. Please take a look. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc725820%28WS.10%29.aspx Let me know if it worksCheers, Hemendra-MCTS

Hi SithVixen, Thanks to share your problem with us. Try to change in "Web Application General Settings". Open your central admin and find "Web Application General Settings" in Application Management tab ---Security validation is on ---Security validataion expires: after 30 mins....replace 30 with 60 Link is below: http://Servername:portno/_admin/vsgeneralsettings.aspx do the IISRESET and check it. Please let me know if it works Cheers, Hemendra-MCTS "Yesterday is just a memory,Tomorrow we may never see"

Unfortunately, it still times out after 30 minutes though I set it to time out after 300 minutes and did an IISreset at the cmd prompt. I'm not sure where else it could be hiding.
