How to customize discussion board so that original post can't be edited
Hello,
I want to customize a discussion board on wssv3 so that the original post can't be edited. By default, the original post can be edited because everyone has access to the list. Is there a way to set it up, though, so that once the message is posted, it can't be edited?
I was thinking of setting up permissions so that people can only add items, and not edit them. But when I go to permissions and choose Actions>Edit Permissions>break inheritance>select the members group>Actions>Edit Permissions, I don't get granular permissions like "add" "edit" etc. I get these instead:
Full Control - Has full control. Design - Can view, add, update, delete, approve, and customize. Contribute - Can view, add, update, and delete. Read - Can view only. View Only - Members of this group can view pages, list items, and documents. If the document has a server-side file handler available, they can only view the document using the server-side file handler.
Thanks

Hi,
I order to set up more granluar permissions, you can create a custom "Permission Level".
You have already seen the pre-defined ones (Full control, Design, Contribute, Read etc)
By going to Site Settings -> Advanced Permissions - > Settings -> Permission Levels you can create your own and specify exactly what users with this level can do (for example create a level called AddButNotEdit)
You will need to be a Site Collection Admin to be able to do this
